Nintendo showed off the first glimpse of a new branch of the Gameboy franchise at their E3 press conference.
The Gameboy Micro, coming this Autumn, is "just a hair bigger, and about two-thirds the weight, of an iPod mini." It contains the best and brightest screen Nintendo have ever put in a handheld, will play all Gameboy Advance games and will have customizable faceplates.
Nintendo made a point of stating that the Gameboy Micro is not a successor to the DS or Gameboy Advance, but is a morphing of the Gameboy brand aimed at the "image conscious gamer".

CubeEurope.com has some more specific details:
Some more details include the dimensions of the new unit: at 4 inches wide, 2 inches tall and 0.7 inches deep and weighing a mere 2.8 ounces, this Gameboy marks Nintendo's smallest ever. It has a brushed metallic case, again fully removeable and interchangeable and will feature the standard-sized GBA 2 inch screen only with considerably more juice behind its display. The screen will be immensely bright, and will be adjustable by gamers to accomodate different lighting conditions. Also, the Micro WILL have a headphone jack. Hallellujah.
