Morpheus has been killed off in the MMORPG Matrix Online; this week's live event (aptly titled "The Hunt for Morpheus") saw him getting gunned down by a mysterious assassin as he attempted to set off a series of bombs in the Matrix.A press release sent out announcing the dramatic plot twist vaguely hinted that Morpheus' death may not be permanent, though Paul Chadwick, the writer behind the storyline said in an interview that there are no plans for a resurrection.
The next step in the evolving storyline is a murder-mystery as players try to uncover the identity of the assassin:
Players will be encouraged to figure out not just who the assassin is, but what Morpheus was really all about. That means, in fact, that thanks to the wonders of flashback scenes, "Matrix" users haven't heard the last of Laurence Fishburne's voiceover work in the game.
