Sony have launched a PS3 ad blitz on L.A. bus shelters and billboards ahead of their pre-E3 press conference later today. The ads don't give much away; the simple design only includes obscured versions of the famous Square, Circle, Triangle, and X patterns from the PlayStation controller and the slogan "Welcome chang3":
Combined, a half-circle, broken X, sharply cut triangle, and cropped square end up looking more like glyphs from another world.
Sony's message: "Welcome Chang3." Yes, instead of an "E" the letter is replaced with a squared-off "3," clearly signaling the PS3's presence at the show. While it's still hazy just how much of a presence Sony will make with the PS3, these ads prove that the electronics giant has not forgotten how to play the game. Indeed, Microsoft's strong showing of Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Revolution debut won't go unchallenged by the king of the hill.
Pre-E3 2005: PlayStation 3 to Change E3?
The Japanese company is widely expected to lead its press conference with an unveiling of the PlayStation 3 and the gossip on the ground here is that it could be touted as much more powerful than Microsoft's rival Xbox 360, which was unveiled on Thursday night.
Sony is also expected to discuss exclusive software deals aimed at derailing the excitement over the Microsoft console.
