Sony is looking to outsource production of the PSP to possibly China or Taiwan to meet rising demand, Bloomberg news reports.Currently a sole factory near Tokyo makes the PSP console, churning out one million units per month, but Sony announced they would step up production to two million per month back in February in order to compete with Nintendo, who hold 90 percent of the handheld market.
SCE chief Ken Kutaragi is quoted as saying that the company has ran out of units in the U.S., and that they are not yet ready to start selling PSP's in Europe:
``We have to somehow increase our production capacity as we're not prepared to start selling in Europe, we've run out of units in the U.S. and it's still selling well in Japan,'' Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., told Bloomberg News today at a games industry meeting in Tokyo.
