A writer on ArsTechnica.com found out through some enquiries to his local retailers that pre-orders are already being taken for XBox 360, and was surprised to find that, despite the lack of an official price, release date or information on how many units would be allocated to each retailer, people were still lining up to pre-order:After personally seeing person after person laying down money for the 360 and talking to a good number of mainstream gamers who've put down money down, it's surprising how many people are looking forward to the next system and how much money they're putting down with no firm information. I've even been told in many places their preorders are filled up, and this is in Lexington Kentucky!
Has gaming really gotten this big, or is the hype machine just this effective?
