Extreme Tech has a nice summary of the features expected in ATI's upcoming multi-GPU technology, Crossfire. They discuss the technology in both the hardware and software aspects of the setup. This brings up another interesting point. ATI claims greater flexibility for the CrossFire solution. In other words, you don't need to buy a pair of identical cards for CrossFire motherboards, unlike Nvidia's SLI technology. So if you already have a PCI Express X800 XL, then you can get either an X850 CrossFire Edition board or X800 CrossFire edition board. However, if the boards aren't identical in performance, the faster board will be throttled back dynamically in order to maintain synchronization.
