I recently discovered a British company that specializes in releasing new games for old systems that are no longer commercially supported. The company, Cronosoft, are publishing new games in the original tape or disk formats for the Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, the BBC Acorn and the ZX Spectrum; programmers who create games for the systems can sell them through Cronosoft and earn royalties on their creations:
The programmer receives a royalty for every copy sold (usually £1.00 per unit), and is happy to know that people are enjoying his or her software.
The buyer of the software is happy - they are getting a quality game for a low price - a real physical cassette or disk, with a colour inlay, delivered to their home. The anticipation of getting a new game - waiting for it to load - discovering all it has to offer - and having a product that both looks nice as part of a collection, and will become collectible too!
