As the release Call of Duty 2 is upon us, it is interesting to look back at the recent history of Infinity Ward, since release of the original COD in 2003. The game since then has received numerous Game of the Year awards, praised by critics and cherished by fans as one of the most realistic and engrossing WW2 shooters to hit the PC in years.Gamespy has a very interesting writeup in which they summarize COD's success, its expansions and the anticipation that is building for the long awaited sequel, that will be using an entirely revamped graphics engine.
So what do you do for an encore? For Infinity Ward, it was back to WWII, but not just for a rehash of the original game. After getting a first look at the game a few weeks ago, the company offered a sneak peek at two more very different levels in the chaos surrounding this year's E3. From the looks of things, it appears Call of Duty 2 may not only live up to its predecessor, but potentially eclipse it.
