Music retailer HMV has announced a new games download service with backing from Microsoft. The goal is to expand its new download service that starts on September 5th, giving customers access to games and movies as well as music.Initially, the Microsoft backed endeavour will only be offering Windows Media Audio files for download but in time will open the door for other entertainment as demand grows.
HMV has earmarked UKP 10 million in capital expenditure and marketing for the venture. Part of this investment will go towards funding a new piece of 'jukebox' software being developed by Microsoft.
Consumers will be able to obtain the software from any of the 200+ HMV stores across the country or via the retailer's website.
