Following the recent news that DoomRPG for cellphones would be released at the same time as the Doom movie adaptation, id Software have announced Quake will be hitting the cellphone platform this summer.Pulse Interactive will publish the title, which is being developed by Bear Naked Productions.
The game is to be a "faithful conversion" of the original 1996 PC version, and will appear on a new generation of phones that come with 3D graphics hardware built in. The first wave of 3D-enabled phones is due to hit the market this summer, and Quake Mobile will appear initially as an embedded game on a Korean-manufactured phone in July:
"QUAKE Mobile takes all of the action, game play, and atmosphere of the groundbreaking original and puts it right in the palm of your hands," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "QUAKE pushes the envelope of today's mobile handsets, and offers gamers a fun and addictive on-the-go entertainment experience. We're already looking forward to the first mobile deathmatch."
[...]
"Forget miniature golf and puzzle games, QUAKE is going to take mobile gaming to a whole new level," said Paul Trowe, president, Pulse Interactive., "QUAKE will not only satisfy hardcore players, but also create a whole new generation of fans around the world."
