Sony may not be breaking out the Champagne after hearing a recent market research report from DFC Intelligence. The report suggests that Sony can realistically only expect to gain 50% of the next-gen console market, a far cry from the 70% dominance of their PS2.

The report also suggests that Nintendo and Microsoft may be coming up roses as they have an opportunity to gain an even greater share of the market than last time around. DFC Intelligence claim that Microsoft can hope to grab at least 40% of the market share with their Xbox 360 with Nintendo coming up close behind on 35%.

DFC's report also predicts strong industry growth, with gaming expected to be worth $41.49 billion by 2009. $9.8 billion of this is expected to come from online gaming, too. More on all these topics soon.
