World of Warcraft has surpassed expectations on all sides and now finds itself with 2 million subscribers worldwide, according to Blizzard. This places WoW among the largest online games in the world, only bowing out to the massively popular Lineage. The 2 million figures are based on subscriptions in North America, Europe and south Korea, but Blizzard does not seem content to expect no more growth. With the game's release in China early this month, those numbers are expected to rise significantly, perhaps even out-gunning Lineage in the record books.
Figures from the public beta of the game in China showed up to 500,000 players using the servers concurrently, with six-figure queues to enter the game - numbers which come close to rivalling the peak concurrency in all three other territories combined.
