Microsoft has made it clear before that success in Japan with the Xbox 360 was one of their most important undertakings with the launch of the next-gen console. Well, it turns out they may have a difficult time realizing this goal as rumours circulate the 'net of a possible shortage in Japan. The console was slated for launch in Japan in November of this year, but reports coming in from Ferrago suggest a new Japanese release date of March 2006, which would pit Bill's new Xbox with Kutaragi's PS3 which is due out in Spring of next year.
This news reportedly comes from a Redmond insider who let the delay slip, however in uncharacteristic fashion, Microsoft have commented on this speculation - stating that the Xbox 360 "remains on track for each territory," referring to the Christmas 2005 launch period revealed at E3 in May. This could all be cods-wallop, then, but Microsoft's task is not an undaunting one: analysts are already stating that the Xbox 360 could be the biggest and most ambitious consumer launch ever - eclipsing Windows 95 in scale and significance. More as we get it, then.
