A new flurry of next-gen rumour has hit the Web, this time concerning exactly what devices the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will be able to connect to. First up, Spong.com report on an official PS3 slide displayed at the ELSPA summit that showed various devices linked to the console that would be in some way compatible with it - included on the slide was the Xbox 360:
In some way, Sony is planning on making the PlayStation 3 ‘talk’ to the 360, though exactly what they are planning wasn’t explained.”
Our source was 100% explicit about what he saw and was 100% confident in his conviction. “The slide was shown to many delegates at the ELSPA summit. It was on screen behind the stage for a long time. I can’t believe no one noticed the Xbox 360 in the corner.”
PlayStation 3 Aiming for Xbox 360 Compatibility? DS and PSP to Share 360 Link?
As unlikely as it seems that MS would get permission from their fierce rivals to piggy-back on their handheld systems (Microsoft is the only one of the three to not have released a handheld), the site also claims that Microsoft may have actually approached Sony and Nintendo about it:
Users of the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) and the Nintendo DS will thus be able to connect their machines with the Xbox 360 and play Microsoft's games over the Internet, Microsoft officials said.
Microsoft appears to have already started sounding out Sony and Nintendo on possible collaboration on the matter. Xbox 360 is slated to be released in Japan by the end of this year.
