Gamespot.com are speculating that the furore over the Hot Coffee GTA: San Andreas mod might actually be an artful piece of viral marketing initiated by Rockstar Games.The notion came up in an IM conversation with a source close to Rockstar's marketing department; he told them it wasn't unlikely that the whole thing is a marketing ploy, suggesting Rockstar may have actually given the mod to an outside party as a way of getting around the ratings handed down by the ESRB:
