Gamespot reports on an interesting interview SCE's Isumu Kawanishi gave to Famitsu. Kawanishi is the Sony software chief who brought us the official browser for the PSP, and he talked of some new features that might be coming down the line for the console. Among them is an advanced email application that would allow video and voice chat, and a way for the PSP to stream video directly from the Internet, rather than the cumbersome process of first saving files to the memory stick and playing the video back from there. A brief mention is also made of a Digital Rights Management system for the PSP, that will allow paid content to be viewed on the console.
Another interesting aspect mentioned is game developers making full use of the new browser. The browser can be opened during gameplay, and Kawanishi sees this as a way to improve future game releases:
For example, a player can pause a game, go to the game's site, download new data, and resume playing the game with new content.
Kawanishi also mentioned the possibility of viruses hitting the PSP, saying that the console is not as vulnerable in general as a PC, but that his staff are on hand to make sure countermeasures are in place if a PSP virus were to surface.Sony hints at PSP upgrades
