The major European retailer GAME has announced that all of their launch-day PSP's have been pre-ordered already, and that only those who ordered theirs before 4pm on the 5th of August are guaranteed to have the console when it launches. The retailer has now moved on to taking pre-orders for the second batch of consoles, which won't reach GAME until September.
A large retailer like GAME seeing such early high demand raises the question of whether there will be a shortage of PSP's in the U.K. and Europe on 1 September:
Whether or not this situation is the same at all retailers isn't clear. The £179 price was thought to be rather expensive, especially as importing the console proved to be cheaper. However, with Sony clamping down on retailers selling imports, it seems that people are more than willing to pay the money for the handheld.
