Everyone's favourite trashtalkin' Sony boss Ken Kutaragi has been called a "marketing genius" in an interesting post on the official Playstation forum. The writer explains Kutaragi's new status by pointing out an old strategy Sony are repeating by including the Blu-ray disc drive in the Playstation 3.The high price of the PS3 is daunting many people even before the console is released, but it is given perspective when compared with the current price of a standalone Blu-ray drive - which starts at in or around $2,000.
With Sony's backing, the format has a big chance of becoming the standard in the next few years; Kutaragi's stroke of "genius" is that people will look at the PS3 and see a cut-price high-definition drive, much like the PS2 was seen as the cheapest DVD player you could buy when it was released.
The post serves as a good intro to the whole world of high-def TV as well as heaping praise on our buddy Kutaragi, read the full thing below.
