MS: PS3 Won't be Affordable in Normal Households - 5.8.05

Peter MooreGamespot has a translation of a recent interview Microsoft's Peter Moore gave to Famitsu, in which he talked some Xbox 360.

He reiterated the Microsoft strategy of expanding the games industry out to non-gamers with the Xbox 360; the company plan to appeal to a much wider market than the core of 18-34 year old males, and have a grand goal of reaching one billion customers with the console.

In contrast, he said Sony's strategy seems to be to make gaming even more exclusive than it currently is by selling the Playstation 3 at a very high price, unaffordable in normal households:

When asked how he felt about Sony Computer Entertainment and its PlayStation 3, Moore said that most consumers believe the Xbox 360 and PS3 to be similar in terms of their hardware and market strategy. However, Moore believes otherwise. He explained that Microsoft's main concern with the Xbox 360 is to expand the gaming industry's gamer population. After listening to SCE president Ken Kutaragi speak on the PS3, he believes that SCE is trying to push the industry into a different direction. Moore emphasized that the PS3's price won't be affordable to normal households.
