There was no news from Sony on a price reduction of the PlayStation 2 at the German Games Conference in Leipzig today. The company had been expected to announce a reduction of the price to possibly as low as $100 for the Christmas period in order to compete with the launch of the Xbox 360. Though it hasn't been officially announced yet, senior sources at Sony have described the planned reduction as "common knowledge", but they instead focused on the european launch of the PSP at the conference. The company will have ten first-party PSP titles ready for the 1 September launch, as well as third party titles and up to thirty UMD movies.
Sony also claimed the console could reach a potential 8.1 million consumers in Germany alone, based on it reaching 25% of the 15-45 yr old demographic.
The price reduction for the PS2 is still expected to be on the cards, though whether Sony plan on announcing it over the remaining days of the conference remains to be seen.
