BitTorrentThe BBC is reporting that a new study shows file sharers are moving away from Bit Torrent after a huge crackdown by the MPAA began last December.

According to Net analysis firm CacheLogic, the widespread piracy of games, movies and music on the Bit Torrent network is decreasing, with the file sharers jumping ship to use the eDonkey and Gnutella networks instead.

eDonkey now handles as many users as BitTorrent in the U.K., China and Japan according to CacheLogic, while in the U.S. and Canada, users have been flooding back to the venerable Gnutella network:

[Gnutella] was one of the first P2P services to be targeted by the record industry but has since faded into the background.

"People are migrating to Gnutella as the attention of the record and movie industry is elsewhere," said Mr Parker.

"The conduit is irrelevant. People are after content. This cat and mouse game will continue."
