Sony has initiated legal action against Hong Kong e-tailer Lik-Sang.com after the site sold PSP's to European customers - the PSP has not been officially released in that territory yet. Likely to be the source of Sony's wrath is an offer of free worldwide shipping for the PSP that Lik-Sang announced last month; the 205 countries covered by the offer includes the U.K. and European countries. Lik-Sang called Sony's action a "total surprise" and described it as "cynical". They state they will do their best to fight Sony's charges, and were thankful of support from employees, friends and customers of the site.
The new lawsuit is just the latest in a string of such actions Sony have taken against smaller companies who sell the PSP in Europe before its official release in September. Last month, Sony successfully won an injunction against Nuplayer.com, who had to cease importing the console and pay substantial damages, while back in June they won a temporary injunction ordering Electricbirdland.com to cease selling the imported consoles. Electricbirdland is expected to make its defence against Sony when the two companies meet again in court later this month.
