The Seattle Post Intelligencer is carrying the big news from Leipzig today that the Xbox 360 price has been unveiled, and that two versions of the console will go on sale. The console is going to come in two flavours - a $299.99 basic "Core System" version and a $399.99 "Premium" version that includes a wireless controller, headset and hard drive.
The hard drive is said to be an essential part for ensuring backwards compatibility with original Xbox games, so it looks like gamers will have to fork out extra for the premium edition if they want to play the likes of Halo 2 on their brand new 360:
Koch said the component of the console that enables backward compatibility -- the ability to play games made for the original Xbox -- relies on the hard drive.
That means someone wanting to play "Halo 2" or another game made for the original Xbox would need to buy the full-fledged Xbox 360 with hard drive, or continue using an original Xbox console.
