Meqon, the Swedish company providing the physics engine for Duke Nukem Forever, has been snapped up by AGEIA, which plans to incorporate the technology into the SDK for their PhysX Processor.AGEIA have a number of high-profile partners using PhysX, including Epic Games, UbiSoft and Sony, who recently announced that PhysX will be integrated into the Playstation 3.
The inclusion of Meqon in PhysX is sure to be good news for developers in general, but 3D Realms' George Broussard is not too happy about having to switch to a new SDK at this stage of the development of Duke Nukem Forever:
We're just now hearing about this, too. On the surface I'm not too happy about it as we were getting to a very very stable point with our physics and nearing a point of being tech complete, and just working on polish.
We'll see what happens, but we're certainly not interested in the prospects of moving to a new SDK - again.
