Despite Sony announcing last month that the PSP would ship across Europe with the homebrew-busting 2.0 firmware installed, reports coming in say the console actually runs version 1.52 firmware out of the box.The 2.0 update apparently isn't applied until you insert the free sampler UMD that comes with the console. Running homebrew on version 1.52 is still not possible, but Eurogamer report that a program is set to be released that lets you downgrade the firmware to 1.50, which was hacked back in June:
Hoooowever, rumours abound that a clever chap with lots of time on his hands is about to release details of a technique for downgrading PSPs from 1.52 firmware to 1.50 - the magic numbers that allow for the execution of homebrew software. We will of course let you know about that when we do.
Hope yet for people with Euro PSP homebrew fantasies!
