Infinium Labs, the company behind the much-delayed and aptly named Phantom gaming console has announced its intention to release a new keyboard & mouse peripheral aimed directly at gamers. The Phantom Lapboard is basically a wireless keyboard and mouse mounted on a board, that lets gamers play their PC games anywhere within a 30-foot radius of the PC. The keyboard lifts at an angle and can rotate a full 360 degrees; the mouse is placed directly underneath it on the board, allowing the gamer to keep his hands closer together than with a regular PC gaming setup. The keyboard also sports an extended spacebar and customised keys for better control of first-person-shooters.
A price for the Lapboard hasn't been announced as of yet, and Infinium expect it to be released in the second quarter of 2006.
Infinium say the Lapboard will act as a stepping-stone towards the eventual launch of the Phantom console itself, which was first announced way back in 2003.
The long delay has earned the console a Vaporware of the Year Award from Wired.com two years in a row.
