According to Reuters, about 600,000 Xbox 360s have been sold in the U.S. since the next-gen console’s launch on Nov. 22, 2005.
While interest among buyers has been high, supplies of the gaming unit have been low for a number of reasons.
Despite this, Microsoft is holding tight to its projected target to sell between 4.5 and 5.5 million consoles by June 30, which might prove difficult this year since the availability of Xbox 360s consoles is still low. Complications number two and three are due to hit the market soon as well - both Sony and Nintendo plan on releasing their next-gen consoles this year.
The PlayStation 3 is expected to hit the market in the spring while the Nintendo Revolution gaming console is targeted for sometime in the early fall.
While the upcoming next-gen releases are not good news for the 360 making its targeted sales, some American retailers (Wal-Mart and Amazon) are starting to have 360 bundles in stock, showing some promise that the logjam to buy the console might ease up soon.
It should be an interesting year for gamers as the Big 3 battle it out for market supremacy.
