According to its official site, Prize Fight, a new online gaming site that will allow players to match their skills against each other in a battle for real cash, is ready to go live Jan. 10.
Hoping to entice players willing to put their money where their mouth is in regard to their video gaming skills, Prize Fight is offering £5 to the first 300 people to sign up.
Prize Fight will enable gamers to play their favorite games for cash prices. The launch is expected to include Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, but developers promise rapid expansion to include not only shooters, but also driving and sports games as well.
Working like a poker site using PC games instead, gamers will pay an entrance fee to play on Prize Fight. This will form the pot available for winners to share. The house, of course, will get its cut of the entry fees.
Those interested can register for free to gain access to a listing of events, which lets them see what games are available at what times. At the launch, Prize Fight will operate between 4 p.m. and midnight. Eventually it will expand to a 24/7 schedule.
The site will use a seeding system to rate players and match them against others of their equivalent skills to enable a more level playing field.
