Project Offset: Fantasy FPS Under Development - 24.1.06

If you’ve ever wondered what a first person shooter set in an epic fantasy world would be like, you’re not alone. It seems several known game developers got together and decided to put that idea to the test.

Thanks to a tip from Igniq reader Rory, I was turned on to the Project Offset site, which you can check out by clicking here.

The game, which is currently under development, has no set release date as a deal with a publisher has not yet been inked, but screen shots and trailers for the concept look pretty incredible. Once published, the game will likely be available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Considering the company is driven by industry veterans, this shooter is worth watching.

Offset Software started as 3 people working out of an apartment, and was completely self-funded. The engine and all art was created with a tiny budget -- just enough to purchase the software and hardware we need for development. Our budget was small but our goal was big, to create an next generation First Person Shooter set in a fantasy world (codenamed "Project Offset"), and a powerful game engine to run it.
The founders are formerly of S2 Games, the seven man development team who created the award winning game Savage: The Battle for Newerth. Savage won the grand prize at the Independent Games Festival in 2004, and was nominated for a Game Developers Choice Award.
