Electronic Arts has announced a 20 percent slash in the debut pricing for two of its upcoming titles – The Godfather and Black.
The move comes as gaming companies are feeling a sales pinch that many believe is associated with gamers waiting to get their hands on their desired next-gen console. These two games will debut at $39.99.
Despite the late 2005 launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360—whose games routinely debut at $59.99—video game sales for other systems have slacked off as consumers wait for new consoles to hit the market. Video game publishers have noted for months that they expected to cut prices in order to spur sales of games for existing console systems.
Design Technica
The slump in sales of video games may be in part due to next-gen console anticipation, but frankly 60 bucks to check out a title that may or may not be enjoyed is pretty darn steep. Maybe EA’s getting the idea?
