Londoners who want to take advantage of a little online gaming action on their handheld, WiFi capable consoles during their lunch breaks will soon be able to do so even if their companies aren’t wireless. Although that’s not likely the real aim behind the city’s plan to make its financial district a hot zone, the possibility exists.
According to the Winnipeg Sun, Lonon will install about 150 WiFi nodes in lampposts, closed-circuit TV poles, street signs and more over the coming months.
The article also says that New York City is looking into a similar plan that will enable the use of high-speed Internet by laptop computers, PDA’s, mobile phones with WiFi service and even handheld consoles.
There’s no indication in the article when the system will go live in London, what the cost estimates are or how gamers, err, workers can tap into the system.
