PS3
Considering finding an Xbox 360 in a store is akin to finding a needle in a haystack, it should come as no surprise that many gamers are turning their attention to greener pastures.

With the spring release of the PlayStation 3 drawing closer, speculation about what the console will do is on the rise. Xbox troubles coupled with the recent leak of Sony’s intent to battle Xbox Live head-to-head with its own PlayStation Network have produced some interesting ideas about what this machine can and will do.

According to Virgin Net, the new PS3 online service will offer ranking and matchmaking lists and will also offer downloadable movies and music.

Intriguingly, it’s also tipped to act as a Location Free Player in conjunction with a PSP; uploading video and audio content to your handheld console via the Internet. So you could be on the other side of the world and still watch anything stored on the PS3’s hard drive.

The site is also reporting the possibility of being able to record TV programs on the console as well. There’s no official word from Sony yet on most of this.

If the rumors are true and Sony manages to get this console on the shelves where gamers can actually get their hands on it, Microsoft might have something to worry about.
