Gamers wanting concrete information about the release of the PS3 have been thrown yet another curve ball in the wait-and-see game. Another “unnamed” Sony Computer Entertainment official has been quoted as saying parts problems may force the debut to be pushed back.
Initially the console was anticipated to launch in this Spring, but rumors and speculation have been flying as apparent leaks from Sony and analyst reports have made later this year or sometime in 2007 seem more likely.
Speaking to Japanese publication SankeiWeb, an unnamed SCE official is quoted as saying, “The highest quality picture is vital to the PS3. There is a possibility of delay [to the launch] if delivery of parts is delayed,” which is obvious as far as it's well known that building something without all the bits is impossible. SPOnG's game shelves' nailed-in telephone directory feet pay testament to this.

Earlier reports point to the Blu-Ray drives as the actual problem along with the cell processor and costs related to manufacture.
What I want to know is what gamers think about all the reported delays and the apparent lack of official information from Sony. What do you think is going on? Do you think Sony’s tight-lipped stance will hurt the console’s release? Why are they being so secretive with would be customers and allowing speculation to run wild? For my part, it makes me wonder about the full viability of the console and if it will actually be worth the cash when it comes out. I’d be more apt to buy it if official updates about successes and failures were more forthcoming from Sony. After going through the Xbox 360 debacle personally, I’m not sure another next-gen console is worth the investment, especially from a company who doesn’t seem to shoot straight with its customers.
