In a move to keep up with Sony’s PlayStation Portable, Nintendo has announced its DS will soon have voice chat capabilities. The portable gaming system will also offer players the ability to load game demos onto their mini consoles for free.
The game chat feature, while cool, will not allow players to talk to each other during an actual game, which doesn’t quite compete with Sony’s technology.
The additional features were announced at the DICE tech conference being held in Las Vegas. Another exciting new feature is the introduction of voice-chat in the gaming device.
Nintendo America's vice-president Reggie Fils-Aime also announced at the conference that the company would be opening electronic kiosks at various retail outlets in the country. The function of these kiosks, which will be opened at places like Best Buy Co. Inc. and GameStop Corp, will be to offer game downloads via Nintendo's Download Play feature. Using this the consumer can play the game for as many times as he/she likes it until the system is switched off or until the user moves away from the kiosk.
Under this feature, Nintendo will make available game titles like True Swing Golf, Mario Kart DS, Brain Age and Pokemon. The company also said that it would be including a voice-chat feature in its "Metroid Prime: Hunters." This feature will start off from March 20. Mr Fils-Aime said that players who play games on the Internet could talk to each other after a game was over but not during it.
