After months of speculation, Sony has finally nailed down a release date for its PS3. OK, well maybe not a date, but a month! And the announcement came from an honest to goodness Sony official.
According to ABC news, Ken Kutaragi, who leads Sony’s video games division, was the one to actually make the announcement. He said the console would release in “early November” in North America, Europe and Japan. This is also roughly the time the Nintendo Revolution is planned to make its debut. Looks like it will be a next-gen console kind of holiday season.
There’s also this news for Australia:
David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has added: "We are absolutely delighted that we will be able to bring PS3 to gamers in Europe and Australia before Christmas. This is an exciting first for Europe, and is a huge endorsement and vote of confidence in the strength of the European market and its importance globally."

Actual news about the console coming from Sony has been scarce. The statements from Kutaragi and Reeves are pretty much as solid as it gets. Earlier “official reports” that flooded news wires have come from unnamed execs and other “industry sources.”
Although Sony had intended to release its PS3 this Spring, the company has run into manufacturing problems. Kutaragi said the delay is to ensure the launch is solid when it comes.
What I’d like to know is what gamers think about the delays and the next-gen wars? Is the PS3 worth the wait? Will you grab an Xbox 360 instead since they’re finally shipping? Sticking with current-gen to avoid the hype or wait out the bugs in the new consoles? Let us know by visiting our forums!
