It may be hard to find, but it’s the only name in the next-gen game right now. Inasmuch, the Xbox 360 is not only enjoying having the market all to itself, it’s the most searched of the next-gen console names on the Internet.
The 360 tops both the PS3 and the Nintendo Revolution in number of searches per day it seems, which is supported by reader response on Igniq as well. As PS3 News points out, it will be very interesting to see the numbers when the next next-gen consoles hit the market later this year.
Yahoo’s top searches for 2005 confirmed this and a report out today on PS3 News confirms the console’s popularity at least among those who surf the Net remains the strongest.
Using Overture we can see that the Xbox 360 is searched 11,895.1/day or more than twice as many as the PS3 which is only searched 5,132.7/day. Comparatively, the Nintendo Revolution is only searched 1,486.4/day
One interpretation is that searching tends to be driven by advertising and word of mouth, most of which coming after a product is launched. Since the Xbox 360 is available, it is makes since that it would outrank the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution.
Another interpretation is that search activity is directly correlated to pre-launch hype. In other words, it’s the pre-launch buzz that really drive search traffic. If this is the case, then we can expect to see a huge increase in searches for both the Nintendo Revolution and Sony PS3.
