It used to be adult gamers away on business trips had to say goodbye to their online gaming friends for the duration due to poor graphics on their laptops. It sounds like those days may be over thanks to Nvidia’s new line of mobile graphics processors that promise to deliver extreme high definition gaming on laptops.
Laptop makers such as Dell and Toshiba have already put the new GeForce Go 7900 chips to use in their machines and others are expected to do so soon.
At XHD screen resolutions of 1680x1050 and 1920x1200, games have up to 65% more image detail than games viewed on common 1024x768 notebook screens. These powerful GPUs are designed to blaze through games at extreme HD resolutions with state-of-the-art 3D graphics effects. The result is a greatly enhanced level of realism and immersion for gamers on the go,” said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president of the GPU business at Nvidia.
The new GeForce Go 7900-series GPUs for desktop replacement laptops consists of two chips: the model Go 7900 GS and the model Go 7900 GTX, the former can boast with relatively low power consumption, whereas the latter delivers world’s highest performance among the mobile GPUs released to date. Both new chips are produced on the 90nm process technology and are based on the GeForce 7900 micro-architecture with some additional power-saving capabilities.

This is fantastic news for gamers on the go who have found it impossible to effectively play graphic intense games such as World of Warcraft, EQ and PlanetSide on their laptops. Although feasible, the poor graphics quality and lack of speed on laptops in the past kind of sucked the fun right out of it.
This might not sound like a big deal to some, but for those who know the torture of sitting in a hotel room on a business trip without being able to log in and play after a long day of meetings, the step forward will be huge.
