The numbers don’t lie.
Take-Two Interactive Software announced today that it’s shipped more than 1.7 million units of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, lending to the notion that this single-player RPG is one seriously hot commodity.
For those MMORPG players who are wondering where they’re friends have gone, Oblivion just might be the answer. (My EQII guild’s main tank is still MIA, along with quite a few others now as well.) With a host of mods already out, including one nudie, the game’s catching on faster than I think even Take-Two, 2K Games and Bethesda Softworks could have imagined.
Online gamers once addicted to EverQuest and the World of Warcraft are turning to Oblivion for single-player action when groups can’t be had, there’s trouble with servers or simply as a full-time pursuit away from MMORPGs. In some cases, players are saying they intend to sell their MMORPG accounts to focus on the fun found within Oblivion.
We are very encouraged by the worldwide consumer demand for Oblivion," stated Paul Eibeler, Take-Two's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The development team at Bethesda promised and delivered the first true next generation role playing game experience."
Take-Two media release
And pleased Eibeler and the folks at Take-Two should be. Available for the PC and the Xbox 360, this game has taken off and taken off fast, leading former MMORPG players down the road to Oblivion.
