They’re not saying much, but Valve has announced it is working on titles for the Xbox 360 that will take advantage of that console’s powerful features and combine them with a customized version of Source.
Source is the technology that powers Valve’s highly popular Half-Life 2 title. Source combines performance, graphics, networking, physics simulation, artificial intelligence and more into a game title.
Exactly what Valve has up its sleeve wasn’t revealed in its announcement, but considering the game maker’s previous hits, the end products should be more than worth the wait. Titles created by Valve include Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Half-Life and Team Fortress.
The combination of Source and the 360 provides game designers the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Whether developing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres, the Xbox 360 is a great platform for expanding Source and our game experiences."
Valve Media Release
Perhaps more will be announced during next month’s E3. Whether they’re developing a “traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres” or all of those options will remain the big mystery until the next announcement. Here’s hoping it comes soon!
