Playstation 3
The E3 hasn’t even officially started and two huge questions have already been answered. November 17th is the day that will go down in gaming infamy. At least that will be the case if the simultaneous worldwide launch of the PlayStation 3 goes as smoothly (or not) as the Xbox 360 release last year.

Sony has confirmed that the PS3 console will go live on Nov. 17 as part of the worldwide launch. The cost will be $499 for the 20 Gb HD version and $599 for the mack daddy 60 gig version.

The PS3 will pretty much do everything, but the dishes, when it makes its worldwide debut and it is being reported it will be able to handle a number of original PlayStation and PlayStation 2 titles, as well. The console will come with Giga-bit Ethernet and a pre-installed hard drive disk standard. It will also support a range of displays from standard TVs to HD, flat panel displays.

With the overwhelming computational power of the Cell processor, PS3 is capable of playing back content from Blu-ray (BD) disc at a bit rate of multiplex 48Mbps with ease, the maximum bit rate defined in BD standards.

The new controller for PS3 has been created by refining and improving the world’s most popular PlayStation controller, which has shipped more than several hundred million units worldwide. The controller for PS3 employs a high-precision, highly sensitive six-axis sensing system that is capable of processing all parameters within the controller itself, thereby eliminating the need for any additional settings on the display system. By applying this technology, it will become possible to freely control the PS3 system over the network.
