Although Nintendo didn’t confirm an official price during this week’s E3, it seems an exec from SEGA has leaked the anticipated sales tag for the Wii console. If the statements are correct, gamers could run out and buy a pair of Wiis for less than the quoted price for the PS3.
The Wii will cost about $200, according to SEGA’s vice president of marketing. Wii wii!
Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing for Sega, said in an interview with Forbes that Nintendo’s Wii would cost less than $200, mainly because it does not feature state-of-the-art “heavy-duty” processors like those in PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Forbes further reported that Merrill Lynch analyst Justin Post predicted Thursday that the new machine, which will be released this fall, would sell for $200, a move that could prompt software publishers to create more titles for the gaming system.

Earlier this week, Sony unveiled the PS3 price, starting at $499. The launch date for that console is Nov. 17. Nintendo did not give out its official date for Wii.
With its unusual controller, affordability and some decent titles coming its way, Wii might be on to something.
