Xbox 360 gamers can now play backup games on their next-gen consoles thanks to some savvy hackers who’ve figured out a way past the firmware.
Kotaku is rightfully pointing out the hack will likely be used by gamers to make illegal copies for friends, but warns that the Xbox Live system would likely pick up on the dupes. It also rightfully points out backups should be allowed.
The hack comes from the FOROS360 Team. The site it’s on is in Spanish, but Team-Xecuter has run a translation. According to their post, the hack, called Commodore4Eva, modifies the key of the reader and allows backup copies to play without issue.
Hackers and modders have had limited success with the Xbox 360 to date – until now. Hacking and modding, however, remains a highly popular pursuit as gamers strive to find ways around program and/or console limitations or simply add on and make good games even better.
The hack can be found here.
