Electronic Arts
It seems Electronic Arts isn’t satisfied to be the biggest name in sports video games. Now, it’s ready to delve seriously into the MMORPG world. And, with the purchase of Mythic Entertainment, the door’s wide open.

Mythic is the developer of MMORPG titles such as Dark Age of Camelot and the upcoming Warhammer Online.

The move, according to industry analysts, is a good one.

From Market Watch:

The acquisition of Mythic definitely expands its exposure to the MMORPG market because of the 2007 launch of Warhammer Online, which may be the most anticipated MMORPG coming to market," said Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest Securities.

It's also being reported the move is meant to help EA break into the Asian market where MMORPGs are one of the best ways to go.

No matter EA's reasons, the buy will likely be good for gamers. Warhammer’s expected to be a great title; with EA's backing it could be incredible. Plus, other titles that could come down the pike might give Sony and Blizzard a run for their money. Competition's almost always a good thing. It'll all be in the game.
