As World Cup action seriously heats up in Germany, fan fascination with the sport remains strong. So strong, in fact, it seems those soccer lovers out there got the message across to stores (at least in the Tampa area) that they not only want to watch the action on TV, but also relive it on their favorite gaming consoles. FIFA World Cup 2006 is back on the shelves in this Sunshine State.
Over the weekend, out of blind curiosity, I checked to see how popular that particular title was in stores in my area. What I found was a whole bunch of stores without a single copy left. EB Games online had World Cup 2006 on back order and stock checks for several EB and Game Stop locations in the Tampa area showed an overall lack of the title.
And, while it seems the used version of the Xbox title (and now a few others including the GBA) remain backordered in some locations, new copies are reported in stock at EB Games and Game Stop locations in the Tampa region.
The Xbox version of the game sells for $29.99. Prices for other consoles vary, but pretty much fall in line with the typical game rates.
The title allows soccer fans to take control of their favorite team and battle it out for national pride. As the battle for the real title draws nearer to conclusion, it’s little wonder this game’s popularity is so high.
