At least that should be the case if a Half-Life movie is ever made.
You’ve got to hand it to Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, the man knows what he likes. When it comes to video game movies that means the scripts should be solid.
In a recent interview, Newell said most game-based movies exploit the instant audience they have available. Rather than put out quality, the makers churn out trash.
When it comes to Half-Life, movie scripts have been turned in, but he wasn’t happy with them.
From Games Industry:
They all sucked. They're just bad movies - movies that shouldn't get made."
"It's just not going to happen until we think that there's a director and a cast and a script and can say this is a movie we'd like to go and see, and not just some vanity piece. We've seen what happens to those sorts of movies and the world would be a better place if nine tenths of those projects had never happened."
My respects to Newell for demanding quality rather than cash. If only all the folks in Hollywood had this attitude. Oh, the possibilities.
