Hot Coffee Still Brewing - 27.6.06

GTA made me do it
It seems in this anti-video game mid-term election year, the fine people of New York (Mrs. Clinton’s carpet-bagged state) don’t want to leave well enough alone. Take-Two Interactive has announced that it’s received a grand jury subpoena from the District Attorney of the County of New York.

The subpoena requests documents pertaining to the period of time Hot Coffee started brewing. The documents include those relating to the “knowledge of the Company's officers and directors regarding the creation, inclusion and programming of hidden scenes (commonly referred to as "hot coffee") in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the submission of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to the Entertainment Software Rating Board for a rating, and the Company's disclosures regarding hot coffee” and a whole host of other things such as paperwork relating to its relationship with Price Waterhouse Coopers LLP, according to a Take-Two media release.

As is the case with grand jury subpoenas, Take-Two has not been apprised of the target of the investigation. Grand juries are “secret” ventures where proceedings and investigations are considered classified. It could be some time before the general public is made aware of the investigation’s intent.

Take-Two, for its part, has agreed to turn over the documents.

The real question here is why after all the hoopla in the past few years won’t lawmakers and prosecutors quit kicking this dead horse? Take-Two’s been more than slapped on the wrist. Jack Thomson, Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman have gotten some big headlines with their scare tactics. Parents now fear GTA. What more could they possibly want?
