The PlayStation 3 won’t be without its share of titles when the console launches later this year. In fact, Sony Computer Entertainment president Ken Kutaragi says the progress of the console has been underestimated by the world.

In the 20 years I’ve worked in the gaming industry, I have never seen so many titles in the playable phase," explained the Sony head honcho. "The world has obviously underestimated our progress in software development. It’s likely that many shook their heads in disbelief at seeing the large number of titles actually working before their eyes.
Sony only has Sony to thank for that notion. Earlier this year, game developers were complaining about a lack of specs for the new console and a Sony exec even boasted the console could launch without titles and still sell 5 million.
Regardless, 10-plus titles is a respectable showing. The big question, however, will be if these games will take full advantage of the PS3’s power. It’s been reported the launch titles won’t and if that’s the case they might be disappointing.
