As Blizzard continues to ban World of Warcraft players that break the rules, it doesn’t mean the phenomenally successful MMORPG is suffering a lack of players. The game has more than 6 million subscribers now and is taking steps to recruit more.
The World of Warcraft North American site is offering a recruit a friend promo in which current players who recruit their friends to the game can get up to 30 days of free play. The European site is giving away 10 free days of game play to people who want to try out WoW for size.
On the banning front, Blizzard kicked another 30,000 accounts during the month of May. It seems along with the kicked accounts, more than 30 million in gold was removed from the game’s overall economy. The accounts pulled were involved in activity that included third-party programs to farm gold and items.
From the WoW site:
We will continue to aggressively monitor all World of Warcraft realms in order to protect the service and its players from the harmful effects of cheating. Please note that selling World of Warcraft content, such as gold, items, and characters, can result in a permanent ban of the involved accounts from World of Warcraft.
Blizzard has had some problems since its launch of WoW, but its effort to keep banning accounts involved in ToS violations is admirable.
