EverQuest Mods, Cheats - 29.7.06

EverQuest
When it comes to MMORPGs, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft might have a massive subscriber base, but EverQuest has history – a history that’s still being written.

Launched on March 16, 1999, the game is older than my oldest daughter (who was not named after an elf). In fact, I began playing it shortly before her birth and continued my mystic’s run until City of Heroes launched in 2004. I landed more or less permanently in EverQuest II with its late 2004 debut, but EverQuest holds a special place in my heart. During my time there, I made friends I continue to play RPGs with, learned the finer points (and not so fine points) of leading raids and learned to appreciate the value of teamwork.

It’s been a while since I have fired up my toon on the Xegony server, although quite a few friends have migrated back to the game after exploring WoW, CoH, EQII and even Oblivion.

During my long time in EQ, I discovered a number of UI improvements and other mods that helped make the game more enjoyable. It is for all those who continue to play EQ and those who have yet to explore it, I’ve put together a list of mods sites that can help with game play. I can’t speak to the veracity of all of these mods, but some of them – the UI improvements especially – can really take the game and make it more user friendly.

Here’s a sampling of sites to visit for some of the best mods going for the original EverQuest:

  • EQ Interface: This site includes tons of mods for the original game, including a tradeskill mod that makes the window more user friendly.

  • File Planet: This site has a number of different mods, including a new UI with old gems.

  • Strategy Informer: This site has a nice collection of mods, cheats and more for the original title. It features a class experience calculator and even a guildchecker utility.

  • VGpro: This site has a treasure trove of downloads. Options include UI options, a midi deluxe music patch and more.

  • EQ Traders Corner: This site has a nice listing of UI mods for tradeskilling and beyond.

  • EQ Atlas: Offers some help getting around the expansive world of Norrath.

With more than six years and more expansions that you can shake a stick at, the original EverQuest is still going strong with new, returning and even veteran players calling this title their game of choice. The above listing is just a sampling of what’s available to help make the gaming experience more personalized and fun. Keep in mind, it’s just a sampling though.
