While the game’s actual release date remains a matter of debate, the folks over at Bungie are working hard on the Halo 3 title. The new version is meant to be a next-gen showstopper and Bungie seems to be pulling out all the stops to make it so.
In his weekly update on the game’s progress, Frankie from Bungie has unveiled some information about the new game’s UI. It seems Master Chief lovers will have an easier time interfacing with the game, and it sounds like Frankie’s pretty pleased with the progress. “Our UI has come on in leaps and bounds,” he wrote.
Simplicity in use seems to be what Bungie is shooting for with the interface. “As it stands now, the interface is designed to make it very simple to get to a ‘lobby’ and make all necessary changes from there - so that you can customize your experience, appearance, and more importantly, really specific game types from anywhere.”
It also seems the UI will overcome past problems folks have faced with the Quick Options settings in games. “Folks who've played a lot of custom games know that it is very frustrating when the "Quick Options" selection just isn't enough to get all the options you want in a game type. You won't have to worry about that from now on. And you can also change your controller setting from anywhere, at any time.
The Halo 3 title is officially listed as a 2007 release by Bungie, but there have been reports of an earlier release. The title is being designed for the Xbox 360 to fully take advantage of the console’s next-gen capabilities.
Regardless of an actual release date, this title is going to be hot. Halo players are chomping at the bit to see what a version of the game designed for the 360 will do. An easier, well designed UI will just be icing on the cake.
In the meantime, Bungie intends to give gamers a different kind of Halo action with the release of the graphic novel on July 19.
